- [Registrar vs celebrant: the real difference in UK wedding ceremonies](https://www.academyofmoderncelebrancy.com/unravelling-the-role-of-a-wedding-registrar-in-the-uk/): In the UK, a wedding registrar and a wedding celebrant do very different jobs. A registrar is a local-authority employee who conducts the legal, standardised part of a marriage and files it with the state. A celebrant is an independent professional who writes and delivers a personalised ceremony built around the couple, but who does not have legal marriage powers in England, Wales or Northern Ireland. Scotland is the exception: there, independent celebrants can conduct legally binding weddings.

Now, as she nears graduation from AMC's Master Celebrant course, she explains how funerals drew her into celebrancy, why the decision was never about money, and what it has taken to retrain in a new field, building a retirement career later in her working life.

Alongside two of her fellow mentors, Penny Boycott and Christine Mabbott, she brings the unique viewpoint of someone who has worked as a legal registrar of weddings, with a wealth of knowledge and insight into the legal and ceremonial aspects of the role that she cannot wait to share with AMC students.
- [The art of ceremony: how great celebrants turn life’s biggest moments into memories that last](https://www.academyofmoderncelebrancy.com/the-art-of-ceremony/): The difference between a ceremony people sit through and one they carry with them for years comes down to craft: the quality of the listening that shaped it, the skill of the writing that holds it together, and the presence of the person delivering it. That's the art of ceremony, and it's the single most important thing a celebrant can develop.
- [From IT director to funeral celebrant: Nick Parsons’ AMC story](https://www.academyofmoderncelebrancy.com/nick-parsons-it-director-to-funeral-celebrant/): After four decades in IT and a retirement that was barely a few months old, Nick Parsons trained with the Academy of Modern Celebrancy and conducted his first funeral ceremony. This is how he got there, what the training was actually like, and what he is building now.

- [From the registry office to her own stage: meet AMC wedding celebrant mentor Katie Keen](https://www.academyofmoderncelebrancy.com/celebrant-mentor-katie-keen/): Katie Keen knows exactly what a standard civil marriage script looks like. She spent years delivering them as a sessional registrar for her local council, a role she loved — the flexibility, the couples, the privilege of standing at the front of their day. But she also knew, from the inside, what those ceremonies could not do.
- [Abi Fisher’s leap from the West End to wedding celebrancy](https://www.academyofmoderncelebrancy.com/abi-fisher-celebrant-journey/): Abi Fisher spent a decade on stage and 25 years behind the scenes at some of London's biggest shows. Today she officiates weddings, elopements and vow renewals across Mykonos and the wider Cycladic islands. This is her story.
- [Welcome to the team: meet AMC’s new mentors](https://www.academyofmoderncelebrancy.com/welcome-to-the-team-meet-amcs-new-mentors/): AMC's mentor team has always been one of the things that sets us apart. Every student who trains with us is guided by a working celebrant — someone actively in the field, conducting real ceremonies, and building a real business. That's not window dressing; it's the foundation of everything we teach. And now, that foundation just got stronger.

The joy, the love, the spectacle of it all. - [The science behind how AMC trains celebrants — and why it works](https://www.academyofmoderncelebrancy.com/the-science-behind-how-amc-trains-celebrants-and-why-it-works/): Ask most people what makes a great celebrant, and they will talk about warmth, creativity, and the ability to hold a room. Those things matter. But they do not emerge from a weekend course, a stack of videos, or a qualification that was ticked off and moved on from.
- [Do I need a qualification to become a funeral celebrant?](https://www.academyofmoderncelebrancy.com/do-i-need-a-qualification-to-become-a-funeral-celebrant/): The short answer: No formal qualification is legally required to become a funeral celebrant in the UK. # Academy of Modern Celebrancy (AMC)
The Academy of Modern Celebrancy is a UK-based celebrant training provider offering certfied online courses in wedding, funeral, naming, and master celebrancy. AMC has trained over 1,000 celebrants worldwide and holds a 4.8-star Excellent rating on Trustpilot.
AMC delivers accredited online celebrant training recognised by the National Open College Network (NOCN) and regulated by Ofqual.
