Life as a wedding celebrant – how to help your couple plan their special day

TABLE OF CONTENTS

Planning a wedding is something most people only ever do once. For some, the whole experience can be exciting and fun, but others may find the whole process overwhelming and stressful.

As a wedding celebrant you can help. You are often one of the first decisions a couple will make when it comes to organising their wedding. Once a couple has found their perfect match in you, you can then help guide them into planning their dream wedding ceremony. Here are a few tips to get you started…

    Venue

As a celebrant, you attend all kinds of weird and wonderful wedding venues. From grand manor houses, to the tip of a mountain, your couple can choose a location that best suits them.

Help your couple in suggesting locations they may never have thought of. Use your past experience in the celebrant world to suggest the perfect venue that you think would best suit your couples personalities and ceremony.

    The Wedding Party

Get to understand who your couple are wanting to involve in the service. How many bridesmaids, flower girls, groomsmen or page boys are attending the ceremony and what is each of their roles?

Here, you can offer your advice on how to include each member of the party in a special way. Maybe even suggest a four leg ed ring bearer, I mean, who wouldn’t want that? Understanding the logistics of the wedding guests will benefit you when planning out your own agenda on the day so this is an extremely important step in the planning processes.

    Ceremony Details

This leads us on to the details and timings of your couples ceremony. Use your knowledge to help your couple plan their ceremony from start to finish. Allow them to feel like they have planned their wedding to be exactly how they imagined. Work with your couple to finalise a ceremony programme. This will allow things to run smoothly, and ensure the bride, groom and all their lovely guests will have the most magical day of celebration. Here are a few things to consider…

    • Music
    • Reading
    • Speeches
    • Ring bearer
    • Usher
    • Timings
    • What they would like the celebrant to wear
    • Personal rituals

As you head further into your career as a celebrant your knowledge and experience will increase. You will attend a vast array of different venues, and you will meet so many different people along the way. This puts you in the best position when helping future clients to plan their dream wedding ceremony.
