So perhaps you’re thinking of training to be a Celebrant, are currently training or maybe you’ve passed the exams and finally received the paperwork which states you’re officially a certified Celebrant – Wahoo! Becoming a Celebrant is such an enriching career choice, you will love it! You might be thinking as part of your journey, so how do I get bookings as a Celebrant? Fear no more, we’ve got you.
1. Identify your niche
First things first, you need to identify your niche. It’s something you’ll hear a lot but it’s fundamental to your success in how to get bookings as a Celebrant. Our CEO Jennifer Claire offers the most amazing coaching for Celebrants so if you’re struggling or what to bounce some ideas off of someone, she’s your girl!
2. Create your marketing suite
Once you’ve identified your niche, you’ll be able to get going on your brand. Once this is in place, you’ll be able to create your email address, a beautiful website, business cards and branded items. There are a lot of Celebrants in this community but every single one is different – that’s the beauty of this career! By having a sparkling shopfront and outstanding branding, you’ll have your ideal client flocking to you.
3. Set up Directory listings
Granted, a great website takes time to rank and it takes work with blogging. Directory listings should form part of your marketing plan. There are free ones, but there will also be paid for listings which will bring better results. Being part of a directory is amazing as you’re part of another community. We highly recommend The Celebrant Directory which hosts glittering inspiration for couples and families, with incredible Celebrants worldwide who will support your new business too! We’re very much community over competition and you’ll need to form relationships with your local Celebrants to support with life events and unforeseen circumstances.
Networking is essential in getting bookings as a Celebrant. Whether you’re a wedding, naming or funeral Celebrant you will need to touch base with suppliers across your industry. In the wedding industry there’s networking breakfasts and lunches, but styled shoots are an amazing way to showcase you and your brand. In the funeral profession, you can attend coffin clubs, death cafes, community events and link up with funeral directors. If you’re a naming Celebrant, get in touch with your local maternity unity, children’s centres and play cafes. Don’t forget your business cards!
5. Social Media
Love it or hate it, social media is a huge part of our everyday lives and many Celebrants get a steady flow of bookings across Facebook and Instagram. Pinterest is an incredible search engine for couples wedding planning and a lot of people use it for naming ceremony and celebration of life inspiration. Reels are huge as is TikTok!
6. Be visible
It sounds really obvious but you need to keep up appearances. If you have social media accounts, keep them active and full of content! Make sure you put your up to date reviews and testimonials onto your website and update your imagery with high res quality photos across all platforms.
Believe it or not, blogging brings bookings! If you don’t have a blog set up on your website, make sure you get one installed pronto! This will do wonders for your SEO and help your website rank higher on search engines. Your blogs will be awesome content for Pinterest and you’ll be able to create these into guides or reels on Instagram.
8. Be authentically you
It’s ok to feel a little imposter syndrome as you begin on your Celebrant journey and it’s ok to take inspiration from others but stay true to you. “There is no one alive youer than you” as Dr Seuss says. Couples and families will love you, for you if you’ve identified your niche properly and are your authentic and wonderful self.
