If you’re old enough to remember the 1989 Kevin Costner film Field of Dreams, you’ll remember that he keeps hearing the words “Build it, and they will come”. In the film, the main character throws every penny his family has to turn his farm into a baseball pitch. Legends of the game appear through the cornfields [spoiler alert], and thousands of people feel suddenly and inexplicably compelled to drive halfway across the country to turn up on his door to pay him to watch this game.
It’s an incredible film, but let’s be real: it’s absolute fantasy. In the real world, you can’t rely on people appearing out of cornfields to draw people to your business, and people don’t just magically turn up on your doorstep (or website) to book you without you lifting a finger.
Visibility is key to becoming a successful celebrant – you’ll need to keep showing up and reminding people what you do and find creative ways to showcase your work.
Show up in the right places
Understand that your ideal clients won’t be everywhere, and you shouldn’t try to be either—that’s a surefire shortcut to burnout!
You need to be strategic with how you allocate and spend your time, energy and financial resources. Before you start showing up online (or in person) do your research to work out:
- Who your ideal client is
- Where they hang out
- What venues they love
- What messaging resonates with them
Get to know where your ideal clients hang out and make a strategic plan to show up there consistently.
Platforms and Places to Consider
Your ideal client won’t be everywhere. Take time to think about where your ideal clients are spending their time and the type of content they’re consuming there:
- Facebook: Join community groups where couples seek recommendations
- Instagram: Perfect for showcasing your visual ceremony style
- YouTube: Share longer-form videos to entertain, educate and inspire prospective clients
- Pinterest: Create inspirational boards that attract planning couples
- Local Magazines: Submit real ceremonies or write guest articles
- Venues: Build relationships with coordinators who can recommend you
- Community Groups: Engage in conversations about life celebrations
- Wedding Fairs: Connect directly with couples planning their big day
- Podcasts: Share your expertise on shows about celebrations or local radio stations
- LinkedIn: Network with professionals who might refer clients
Create quality content
You may have heard marketers say that Content is King! Our brand specialist Danielle Garber of Be More You Online, describes it this way – “Content is the currency of attention. If you want the right kind of attention, you need the right kind of content.”
She says “It’s not just about showing up in the right places, boring posts or repetitive sales focused content doesn’t engage people, you have to go beyond that”:
- Show up with a message that resonates with your ideal client
- Answer the questions and concerns they have
- Speak to your ideal clients aspirations and goals
- Create trust and reassure that you’re the person for the job
- Try to be genuinely helpful or deliver something of real value
And, above all else, you have to do it in a way that is aligned with your personality and style.

Your Website: Your Home on the Internet
It’s easy to think that you don’t need a website if you have a social media presence, but it’s a non-negotiable if you’re running a professional business. Your website is your reliable digital home against ever-changing algorithms and fickle social media platforms. Unlike social platforms where your content competes with millions of distractions and might disappear in a scroll, your website is dedicated entirely to your celebrancy business.
Think of your website as your own little corner of the internet—a haven away from the noise of notifications and trending topics that pull potential clients away from your message. Here, you control everything: your branding, your story, your voice, and how you present your services.
Your website offers several powerful advantages:
- Algorithm-Proof Presence: Social media platforms change their algorithms constantly, sometimes dramatically reducing your visibility overnight. Your website remains steadfast and accessible.
- Complete Creative Control: From colours and fonts to imagery and language, everything can be tailored to reflect your unique celebrant style.
- Client-Focused Journey: Design a user experience that guides visitors exactly where you want them to go—toward booking a consultation with you.
- Showcase of Your Work: Create dedicated galleries of your ceremonies (with permission), testimonials, and the personal touches that make your services unique.
- Professional Credibility: A well-designed website signals professionalism and commitment to your craft.

When potential clients are searching for a celebrant, they’ll often research several options. Your website is where they’ll spend the most time getting to know you—it’s your chance to make a lasting impression that resonates with them on a personal level.
Remember, your website doesn’t need to be complicated or expensive, but it does need to be professional. A simple, clean design that conveys who you are, what you offer, and how clients can reach you is far more effective than a complex site that’s difficult to navigate.

Be Consistent
Once you’ve decided on your message and the right platforms or ways to connect with your ideal clients, you need to show up regularly and consistently to ensure you stay visible.
Research suggests that people need to hear a marketing message SEVEN times before they remember it or take action, so any important messaging bears repeating (and reposting). Especially when you consider that social media platforms only show your content to a fraction of your followers, and the average person is exposed to between 4000-10,000 marketing messages a day.
Be mindful of your time and energy. Pick one or two main platforms and repurpose your content between them. Creative software like Canva can resize posts for you and the free version of AI software Opus Clip automatically resizes and edits long form video interviews into Reel length clips, saving you hours.
Be Authentic
There’s a well known marketing saying “There are no new messages, only new messengers”. Globally (as of 2025) there are roughly 14 billion YouTube Videos, 7.5 million blog posts posted daily, 1.9 billion websites and 6.5 million podcasts on Spotify alone… it’s almost a certainty in this day and age that someone else will have answered the question you’re about the answer or spoken about the same topic online – so the ONLY OPTION to stand out online, is to be yourself put your own personal twist on it.
Remember, nobody else can be you, and that is your superpower.
When you’re creating your content, find ways for your personality and voice to shine through, film in locations or settings that complement your style – perhaps a beautiful natural setting, a cosy lounge setting or a bold and colourful backdrop if that suits – you don’t have to adopt a different persona to attract the right clients – your ideal clients will be magnetised to you, just the way you are!
If you’re establishing yourself as a new celebrant it’s easier to gain traction with niche messaging, AMC mentor Sonal Dave shared how finding the right niche was a gamechanger for her business and award winning, former AMC student Martin Fox-Roberts (of Married at First Sight fame) shared how when he embraced all the parts of himself to create his own niche as a BSL sign language interpreter and Drag artist Celebrant, his business completely transformed.
Need a Plan?
If you’re feeling a bit lost about where to start with your marketing journey, you’re definitely not alone. Many celebrants struggle with the same challenge – they’re amazing at creating meaningful ceremonies but less confident about promoting themselves.
Creating a visibility strategy doesn’t have to feel overwhelming. The key is having a structured approach that’s specifically designed for celebrants, rather than trying to piece together generic marketing advice that doesn’t quite fit our unique industry.
