5 Qualities Of A Wedding Celebrant

TABLE OF CONTENTS

For most people, they will only choose a wedding celebrant once. This means you should understand and be very much on the same page when it comes to arranging and officiating the wedding. With the power of technology and the internet, there are now so many wedding celebrants available to couples. This means it’s important to possess the right qualities that will make you stand out above the rest.

In order to provide a wedding that is truly unforgettable, you should always aim to be a perfect fit for the couple you’re working with. Let’s cover some of the qualities that we feel make a great celebrant.

    1. You should understand the importance of the event.

This is pretty obvious, but critical, nonetheless. The best celebrants never let people down. Therefore, you should demonstrate high levels of commitment, making the effort to know the couple and their ceremony expectations. This means you should make additional effort to get creative. We suggest writing down notes and coming up with little ideas to make their special day even more special!

    2. You should be well organised

Again, pretty obvious, but crucial. As a wedding celebrant , you should have practiced the ceremony ahead of time, ensuring the chance for hiccups or errors is minimal. You should also possess excellent time management skills, meaning the ceremony runs smoothly.

    3. You should be an amazing presenter

Some celebrants can often become robotic in their work. This should be avoided. Great wedding celebrants are storytellers. Given the in-depth research and time management skills you’ve practiced ahead of time, you should provide a perfect ceremony that is fun and engaging to the couple and audience. Your presentation skills should come from a deep sense of confidence in yourself and your work. Your aura should travel through the room, connecting everyone with the event and celebration.

    4. Versatility and individuality

There are plenty of confident and organised celebrants out there. But you should aim to deliver an entirely unique feel to your ceremonies. Let’s face it, we’ve all attended weddings before where the celebrant is different, but the ceremony feels similar somehow. This is because many deliver a similar service. You should aim to avoid this. If you become a celebrant that is truly different and unique, then your ceremony is bound to be special and memorable for everyone.

    5. You go above and beyond your line of duty

The best wedding celebrants always contribute more than what they should. Nothing should seem too much when working towards the event. Whether it’s helping with writing vows, or offering suggestions for wedding music and readings. You should become a true part of the family, binding all the elements of the ceremony together. A good way to think of it is considering yourself as the ‘beating heart’ of the whole event. You should even feel comfortable offering advice regularly. Remember, you will hopefully conduct lots of ceremonies, meaning you’ll develop a wealth of experience to help make their day even more special. Use your past experiences to your advantage.

As a celebrant, you provide such an important service, week in week out. Take pride in your work and you’ll get the most from this incredible career path. Really embrace the challenge and uniqueness of the position you’re in, and enjoy the ride. The memories you make will last a lifetime, not just for the couples, but for yourself too!
